About the Film
Halo, Purely for Pets presents “Dog’s Best Friend,” the second film in their #RescueFilm series created by Peter McEvilley to celebrate rescue pets and promote pet adoption nationwide.
In this beatnik-themed rescue tale filmed in San Francisco and Sonoma, Calif., Odysseus Dog rescues his human, Alan (played by Nicholas Olate), but they get separated while out on the road. The film follows the dog’s Homeric journey across the country to get back home to his human.
Nicholas Olate (Alan)
Nicholas Olate has been performing with his father since the age of 6. He grew up with many dogs in the house and started early learning how to care for these beautiful animals. As Nick got older he was given more responsibilities and he is now Richard’s right hand man in everything dogs. Nicholas has also developed into a great performer and compliments Richard’s dynamic personality beautifully on the stage. The Olate Dog act is a beautifully choreographed routine that is both exciting and unique.
Jessica Flaum (Sunshine)
Jessica is a rising young star, known for playing Violet in "The Rocket Family Chronicles" (2012) and for "Strictly Liminal (2014).
Richard Olate (Restaurant Owner)
Richard Olate is from Chile South America. He is the second youngest in a family of 22 children. His family was very poor. There were many times when they would not have enough to eat for days at a time. His story is not a sad one though. At age 12 he got a dog from the street. He loved the dog and found that he might have a feel for training. There are many dogs roaming the streets in Chile, so guess what……? When he had put together a routine, he, with his mother’s help, booked his amateur act at schools and small circuses. He quickly got a regular performance schedule but needed more help. His older brother soon joined him and together they decided they could do something special. They were right! They worked hard creating a very unique dog act. They spent the next few years traveling with different circuses throughout South America and in 1989 they premiered in the United States of America. They have been here ever since. Richard has appeared with his dogs in many television shows, made commercials, been in a movie, and worked in stage, night club and circus performances. A true testament that no matter where you come from, hard work and determination makes dreams come true.
Bella is one of the Olate Dogs, winners of America’s Got Talent’s grand prize. Bella is very sweet, loving labradoodle and likes nothing better than to smother you with huge wet kisses. She LOVES to perform and can hardly contain herself on stage waiting for her turn.
Lili is one of the Olate Dogs, winners of America’s Got Talent’s grand prize. Lili is a Labrodoodle. All of our dogs love Richard but Lili is completely in love with him!! She follows him everywhere. When he sits or lays down she is right there, on him or snuggled up beside him.
